The schools
When already extensive recordings of the public education from the duchy "Zweibrücken" are present from earliest time, there are no documents about the schools within the rule range "Hohenfels-Reipoltskirchen". According to the conditions of our neighbour states at that time it can be worked only with acceptance and assumptions. Because the school day books were misplaced, this also applies partly to the more recent time. For this time can be therefore only reported statements of still existing time witnesses.
Because the children were used for the farm work in the summer, there was the winter school at the beginning only. Only the boys were informed, because they were dependent on vintages, letters and counting for apprenticeship. The girls were prepared for their tasks as a housewife at home. The public education was contributed to a large extent by the churches of the rule area. Cost objectives were the municipalities. The teachers could hold themselves only over water with additional income as organist, ringer etc. and with management of school country. During the Frenchman time (1793-1814) the imported primary school with only French teaching staff ended with the connection of the Palatinate to the Kingdom of Bavaria. Around 1800 it gave catholic, lutheran, reformed and jews. During this time probably 4 schools existed. Instruction was mostly given in private areas. So you could find for example the Jew school at the wealthy cattle dealer "Benjamin Grünebaum", which financed also the school costs.
1736 for the first time a school building in connection with the building of parsonage buildings is mentioned. Which was established like it is called, "on property between church and school". Starting from 1815 the public education in Bavaria was put under state control and the compulsory schooling was introduced. The teachers became civil servants. Into this time also falls the introduction of the Sundays school. By the generous promotion of the public education in Bavaria the primitive and to small school from 1736 could be renewed and extended. On the same area above the church a duplex house is established in 1836, with 2 teacher dwellings on the ground floor and 2 class rooms on the 1. floor. There are now two denomination schools with first 6 and from 1884 with 7 classes each.
In 1900 this school building was too small and in each regard no longer up-to-date. Therefore on instruction of the office for district a new building for the classrooms was considered in September 1904. This new building was implemented 1907 and referred 1908. At the same time the old classrooms were converted to further teacher dwellings.
There are no official recordings and no data of the inauguration and the introduction into the new school. Likewise the report of "William Theobald" contains no data and no source data concerning it. The report reads: "The removal into the new school building was solemnly committed. In honor of the day the land advice of Kusel and some teachers and clergyman from the neighbourhood, as well as the district school advice appeared. The pupils and all celebration participant had met at the old school, where after singing a song and a short farewell speech of the district school advice, the procession went to the new school building. Headed by county advice and the district school advice, followed of the local clergyman and mayor, then the two teachers with their pupils, the foreign guests and last the village inhabitants. At the new school arrived, the mayor presented the teachers the keys to their classroom. The district school advice underlined the meaning of the event in the speech. Subsequently, the county advice took up the school history of the village, contacted parents of the pupils and asked for assistance, so that their children visit also gladly the new education place. A pupil of the upper class spoke a suitable poem, in which also the Bavarian king house is meant.
In April 1933 the community school was introduced and 1938 the 8. School year. There was then a lower grade and a sixth form with 4 classes each. After the end of war 1945 instruction was first interrupted and could be taken up again only with permission of the franz. military government in the late summer 1945. Upon the request of the cath. Church and with agreement of the educate-entitled the schools were unfortunately separated again. 1966 the schools were finally united. With the school reform of 1968 primary school and secondary school were introduced and carriers of the school became the convention community by administrative reform of 1969. With the introduction of the 9. School year these pupils were already withdrawn before from the village schools. That was the end of the village school. The local school was attached 1970 into the primary school "Nußbach" and the secondary school "Wolfstein".
